Congratulations to Leonardo Azevedo on the honourable mention in the Annual Scientific Awards Contest. This contest, sponsored by the University of Lisbon in collaboration with Caixa Geral dos Depositos, aims to recognize scientific research activity in different scientific areas.
Leonardo Azevedo's relevant contributions in the field of Earth Science and Geophysics have a significant impact on the scientific community. His academic path started at University of Aveiro, where he graduated as Geology Engineer. He then moved to Instituto Superior Técnico where he obtained his Ph.D. in Georesources, during which he was a visiting student at Stanford and Heriot-Watt universities. His main research involves geostatistical tools for inverting geophysical data, for georesources and environmental applications. He also has experience in software engineering positions in industry and was the PI of the SMART project (monitoring marine plastic debris). Currently, Leonardo Azevedo serves as the President of CERENA and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico.
