Rui Sousa, born in Matosinhos (Porto), holds a Master’s degree in Mining and Geo-Environmental Engineering by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, completed in 2014. He developed his Master thesis on the Almina, Minas do Alentejo Sa mineral processing plant, where he studied the Froth Flotation of Cu/Zn Massive Sulfides. He also worked for a project between National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG) and the company Beralt Tin and Wolfram owner of Panasqueira Mine, studying the viability of fine tailings reprocessing. Then, he started his research career at CERENA – Center for Natural Resources and Environment, working in the SUSMIN project studying alternative gold leaching methods. In 2016, he joined LNEG to work in the European H2020 FAME Project, in which several mineral processing methods were applied to various reference ores. He contributed for the development of a continuous pilot plant, aiming the production of lepidolite concentrates by froth flotation. Currently he is doing the PhD thesis in Mining Engineering, in the specialty of Mineral Processing, studying the efficiency of mineral separations, funded by the Portuguese national funding agency for science, research and technology (FCT). In addition to the research activities, he is Invited Professor at Mining Department in Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
