GESTO-An empirical process to assess meaning in a piece of architecture

The correct interpretation of a work of architecture – the assessment of its meaning – is fundamental when we face the necessity of intervening on it. The project we present here proposes an empirical test to the hypothesis of «gesture»: the existence of a global coherence of the visual and walking trajectory made as we explore a building [1][2].

BIOCriticalMetals - Recognition of microbial functional communities and assessment of the mineralizing potential (bioleaching) for high-tech critical metals

The specific objectives established for BIOCriticalMetals are the following:
1. To sample and characterize mine waste tailings and associated microorganisms from tungsten and massive sulphide deposits from different climate contexts;
2. To assess the bioleaching process using microorganisms to mobilize critical metals W, In, Ga, Te and Mo from mine waste tailings for further processing (i.e. biosorption and accumulation);
3. To evaluate the bioaccumulation development for biosorptive leachate treatment with bacteria for W, In, Ga, Te, Mo;

Real-Time Mining: Real-Time optimization of the extraction and the logistics process in highly complex geological and selective mining settings

The overall aim of Real-Time-Mining is to develop a real-time framework to decrease environmental impact and increase resource efficiency in the European raw material extraction industry.

The key concept of the research conducted is to promote a paradigm shift from discontinuous to a continuous process monitoring and quality management system in highly selective mining operations.
