Maria Cristina Vila is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), where she has been teaching since 1992. BSc in Geotechnical Engineering (1988) and Mining Engineering (1990) from the University of Porto. MSc in Technology and Management of Mineral Resources (1995) by FEUP/IST. Concluded her PhD in 2005 with the thesis "Soil rehabilitation observed through respirometry - signal analysis in biological systems", at FEUP. Supervisor of 15 concluded master dissertations, and one concluded and 3 ongoing PhD thesis. Her scientific research are focused on the main topics: rehabilitation of contaminated soils; bioremediation; monitoring and environmental risk analysis; technologies and waste management of the extractive industry (waste and drainage mining) and; mineral biotechnology. She has participated in 14 funded research projects, 4 international projects, 5 projects with companies and 5 projects funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Author of more than 50 publications among international scientific journals, proceedings of international conferences, technical reports and didactic publishing
